Since many years, the technical committees TC10 on Graphics Recognition and TC11 on Reading Systems have co-organized scientific events because of overlapping interests, notably the International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR) and the Summer School on Document Analysis (SSDA).
After the ICDAR flagship conference switched to a yearly rhythm (starting with ICDAR 2024) and included traditional TC10 and TC11 events as satellite workshops (especially TC10’s GREC workshop and TC11’s DAS workshop), the collaboration between the two technical committees has become even stronger. Furthermore, with recent advances in pattern recognition and machine learning, notably in the domain of deep learning and large vision-language models, the scientific methods in graphics recognition and reading systems have converged significantly.
Overall, it has been observed that the respective research communities (TC10: around 300 members, TC11: around 1200 members) have in effect merged under the umbrella term “Document Analysis and Recognition” (DAR), as evidenced, for example, by the DAR strategy meeting in 2020: https://sites.google.com/view/darstrategy
Therefore, merging the technical committees matches the natural evolution of the research communities, and allows us to foster the joint understanding on DAR research and streamline activities, while maintaining well-established processes – in particular, the ICDAR organization with the help of its Advisory Board which will remain unchanged.
The proposal submitted to IAPR to merge the two technical committees has been approved during ICPR 2026. As a result, the new TC11 has been renamed to “TC11 on Document Analysis and Recognition”, and the “TC10 on Graphics Recognition” has been dissolved.
TC11 on Document Analysis and Recognition: Formation and Transition Formation
We are pleased to announce the formation of the new IAPR Technical Committee 11 on Document Analysis and Recognition, created by merging the former TC10 (Graphics Recognition) and former TC11 (Reading Systems).
The new TC11 officers are:

The new chair, Mickaël Coustaty, shared a few words with us where he welcomed the new officers, and warmly thanked the outgoing officers of both TC10 and TC11 committees: Andreas Fischer, KC Santosh, Christophe Rigaud, Carlos Moreno, Sanket Biswas, Muzzamil Luqman, Nibal Nayef, Foteini Liwicki, and Joseph Chazalon — for their contributions.
He is looking forward to the new committee’s work spanning graphics recognition, reading systems, and more broadly document analysis and recognition. The TC11 team sees this new chapter as a shared research journey, and is looking forward to welcoming new members who want to help shape the future of Document Analysis and Recognition.
