GREC 2011 : Symbol recognition

International Symbol Recognition Contest GREC'2011

- The contest is closed.
- Results will be presented in GREC'2011 in Korea.

Chung-AngUniversity, Seoul, Korea
15-16 September, 2011

Following the experience of the previous contest, third Contest on Symbol Recognition at GREC'09, a new edition of the contest will be held during the 9th IAPR workshop on graphics recognition (GREC'2011) in Seoul, September 2011. The main goal remains to compare various methods for recognizing linear graphic symbols, i.e. symbols made of lines, arcs and simple geometric primitives, which can be found in any kind of graphic drawings. The framework of evaluation for this edition will be very similar to the framework used in the prior contests, with some extensions concerning three aspects of the test data:

  • The number of symbols in the test data (new symbols will be added to the framework),
  • in context” symbol recognition (symbols with their near environment recognition, equivalent to crop recognition),
  • A brand new aspect is proposed called "Symbol Spotting". This new challenge consists in the recognition of non-segmented symbols and
  • The use of new and improved models of degradation.
All methods will be run on the same set of images, generated to cover different application domains and degradation levels. You can download some preliminary Samples, similar to those which will be used in the real contest.
