Message from the editor
Welcome to the July edition of the TC10 newsletter, which includes: information about the TC-10 & TC-11 joint meeting at ICDAR 2013, the next call for papers, the post-GREC 2013 discussion on the Lehigh Dataset that will take place on Thursday, Aug. 22.
On the morning of Thursday, Aug. 22 -- after the official end of the GREC workshop -- attendees will be invited to browse through an assortment of engineering drawings and diagrams that were recently rescued from the former research labs of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. At one time the second largest steel producer and the largest shipbuilder in the United States, Bethlehem Steel went bankrupt in 2001.
As a result of the bankruptcy process and the disposition of the company's assets, an enormous quantity of documents (we estimate hundreds of thousands of pages) were left abandoned in buildings recently acquired by Lehigh University. GREC attendees will participate in a strategy discussion to plan for the eventual digitization and preservation of a portion of the collection.

TC 10 and TC 11 joint meeting during ICDAR 2013
It is our pleasure to announce the organization of the joint meeting between TC10 and TC 11 during the next session of ICDAR Conference (http://www.icdar2013.org), which will be held in one month in Washington.
This joint meeting will be held on Monday, 26th August 2013 from 5:50PM till 7:00PM. The room is to be determined and will be announced at the conference.
The agenda of this meeting will be the following :
GREC 2013, the Tenth IAPR International Workshop on Graphics Recognition, organized by IAPR TC-10 (Technical Committee on Graphics Recognition), will be held at Lehigh University (Bethlehem, PA, USA) on August 20-21, 2013, just before the 12th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR).
Transportation shuttle buses will be arranged between GREC and ICDAR.
The program, dedicated to the broad spectrum of recognition within graphical document images and related subjects, is organized in a single-track 2-day workshop. It will comprise several sessions dedicated to specific topics related to graphics in document analysis and graphic recognition. For each session, there will be an invited presentation describing the state of the art and stating the open questions for the topic of the session, followed by a number of short presentations that will contribute by proposing solutions to some of the questions or presenting results of the speaker's work. Each session will be concluded by a panel discussion.
Selected papers will be published in post-conference proceedings in the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science series.
Since its beginnings the GREC workshop series has provided a unique atmosphere, fostering a very high level of interaction, discussion and exchange of ideas (distinctly different from classical conference-like presentations) while providing high quality and good impact post-proceedings. It therefore froms an excellent opportunity for researchers and practitioners at all levels of experience to meet colleagues and to share new ideas and knowledge about graphics recognition methods. Graphics Recognition is a subfield of document image analysis that deals with graphical entities in written documens, engineering drawings, maps, architectural plans, musical scores, mathematical notation, tables, diagrams, etc.
GREC 2013 will continue the tradition of past workshops held at Penn State University (USA), Nancy (France), Jaipur (India), Kingston (Canada), Barcelona (Spain), Hong Kong (China), Curitiba (Brazil), La Rochelle (France) and Seoul (South Korea).

Call for datasets
We would like to remind you that the TC10 and TC11 Web sites always welcome contributions of new datasets or other resources related to the community. We would like to encourage all the TC10 and TC11 members to submit such material to the TC10 and TC11 for archiving. The availability of datasets, ground truth and performance evaluation tools online is not only good practice, but also a requirement for a field to progress.
We would like make a special request to the organizers of recent and future competitions. Independently of whether you have the competition datasets and evaluation tools available through other Web sites, please consider archiving them with TC10 / TC11 as well. Web sites often go off-line and useful resources are frequently lost forever.
