Message from the TC10 chair
TC 10 Chair Opinion : IJDAR, a strategic tool for our international community
We would like to thank all the ICPR attendees who came to our TC 10 / TC 11 meeting.
This meeting was a nice opportunity to meet some colleagues in a convivial context, and to share some thoughts about the future of our TC10 and TC11 communities.
Based on our discussions during this meeting, I would like to attract your attention on one specific point, which could be highly strategic for the future of our community.
This point concerns the International Journal on Document Analysis and Recognition journal (IJDAR), which is the reference journal of our community, and probably the journal which ensures the highest probability to be reviewed by an expert of our research field (compared to other excellent journals, but for which the reviewing process may be submitted to people coming from other communities, and as a consequence may be a bit less deep in the analysis): IJDAR remains the most direct way of interchanging ideas among our community members and it is probably the best journal for having deep and reliable reviews concerning document analysis.
IJDAR's impact factor recently decreased, what should be considered as an important alert for the cohesion of our international community, and may be a dangerous factor for the visibility of our research field. Considering these elements, as researchers in Document Analysis, I would like to invite you to valorize our journal, and foster it, so that the significance of our collective research activities couldn't be considered as less important in a short term.
Thank you for your understanding,
Jean-Marc Ogier, TC 10 Chair
GREC 2013 : 10th IAPR International Workshop on Graphics Recognition
The TC-10 and GREC 2013 organizing committee are glad to announce that Tenth IAPR International Workshop on GRaphics Recognition will be held at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, on August 20-21, 2013. As tradition wants it, GREC will be held close to the ICDAR conference and will try to keep its highly interactive, productive and open atmosphere, making it the place to be for discussing current trends of graphics recognition, for keeping up to date with recent advances, but also for discovering more prospective works and interacting with both young and more experienced researchers in the field. Transportation between both events will be organized.
Contests : As for previous editions, GREC organizers encourage graphics-related competitions, and call upon volunteers wanting to organize any of those (on previously existing themes or on new subjects) to contact us at Bart.Lamiroy@loria.fr or Jean-Marc.Ogier@univ-lr.fr.
Important Dates : - Extended abstracts (2 pages) - March 31st, 2013 - Full paper submission (6 pages) - April 8th, 2013 - Acceptance notification: May 15th, 2013 - Camera ready: June 16th, 2013
We encourage researchers to send the link to any relevant article related to graphics recognition to: email@example.com
Call for datasets
We would like to remind you that the TC10 and TC11 Web sites always welcome contributions of new datasets or other resources related to the community. We would like to encourage all the TC11 members to submit such material to the TC11 for archiving. The availability of datasets, ground truth and performance evaluation tools online is not only good practice, but also a requirement for a field to progress.
We would like make a special request to the organizers of recent and future competitions. Independently of whether you have the competition datasets and evaluation tools available through other Web sites, please consider archiving them with TC10 / TC11 as well. Web sites often go off-line and useful resources are frequently lost forever.
