- Message from the Editor -----------------------------------------------------

I hope that 2011 will be a very rich year for you, your family, and colleagues!
Welcome to the first edition of our TC-10 newletter on 2011. First of all, as
the newly appointed TC10 Chair team, we would like to thank Liu Wenyin and Josep
Llados for their great leadership and efforts for our community in the last
four years.

To minimize generating the carbon-dioxide caused by electronic redundancy,
the minimum-core information will provided. This edition briefly brings to you
the key information of the calls from coming events of GREC 2011 in Seoul
and ICDAR 2011 in Bejing.

Any suggestions and comments for this newsletter and TC10 are welcomed.

- Greetings from TC10 Team Members --------------------------------------------

Jean-Marc Ogier, TC 10 Chair

In 2011, as a TC 10 chairman, my task will be to contribute to the animation
of graphic recognition community and to render it as interactive as possible,
so that collective scientific progress could be reached.
It will also consist in trying to work and animate the TC 10 management team,
so that TC 10 could take a large benefit of our investigations. GREC 2011 will
be one of the major event of our community, associated to different competitions
that should be organized during this even which will be held in Seoul, Korea.
In association with TC 11, we will contribute to the doctoral 2011, the aim
of which is to provide some feedbacks for our Phd students research progresses.
Our intention is also to increase the sharing of information through TC 10
Website. We hope that 2011 will be a very nice year for each of you,
from a professional and a personal point of view !

Bart Lamiroy, Dataset curator.

As a Dataset curator my task will be to set up, animate and provide services to
the community for collecting, reviewing and distributing high quality datasets,
promoting their use and assisting contributors in shaping and organizing their
experimental setups to the benefit of high quality, reusable research in the
Graphics Recognition domain. These efforts will be coordinated with other TCs.
Please consider this the beginning for an ongoing call for dataset contributions
or requests. Further details will be given in the next newsletter.
I also grab the opportunity of this newsletter to wish you all the best for 2011.

Jean-Christophe Burie, Webmaster

The aim of the TC10 website is to become the main communication tool of the graphic
recognition community. My task will be to create and manage the information content.
However to feed the website, I need you. So you are invited to send me all relevant
information (PhD and Postdoc positions, news, call for papers, ...) that you want to
share with the community.
One of the objectives of the TC10 team is also to make available differents
resources (thesis, slides, ...) to help new students and researchers in graphic
recognition to improve their knowledge. So, if you have any resources you want to share,
please contact me through the website.
To conclude, dear readers, I wish you a very happy and prosperous New Year.
