2003 ICDAR Awards

Following the tradition of ICDAR conferences, this time, in Edinburgh, the ICDAR Awards were presented to the following people:

The ICDAR'2003 Young Researcher Award was presented to two researchers:

  • Dr. Liu Wenyin (City University of Hong Kong)

Citation: ICDAR Outstanding Young Researcher Award is Presented to Dr. Liu Wenyin who has made a significant impact in the research domain of graphics recognition, engineering drawings recognition, and performance evaluation. he has provided active service to the IAPR TC10 (Graphics Recognition) contest series and was the leading figure it their planning and execution.

  • Dr. Umapada Pal (Indian Statistical Institute)

Citation: ICDAR Outstanding Young Researcher Award is Presented to Dr. Umapada Pal who has made a significant impact in the research domain of Indian Optical Character Recognition, in particular in developing a complete OCR system in any Indian script. He has pioneered in commercializing Indian script OCR systems and published many research papers in renowned international journals.

The ICDAR'2003 Award for Outstanding Contributions was presented to:

  • Dr. Henry Baird (PARC)
